Esports World Cup 2026: Groupstage elimination

For the second consecutive year, our Rainbow Six: Siege team qualified for the Esports World Cup (EWC), one of the world’s biggest esports tournaments. In Paris, the team competed against the best teams in the world for a total prize pool of $2 million.

We qualified for the EWC as Oceania’s consistently highest-performing team and the winner of the regional qualifier. Led by coach Maga, our Australian roster travelled to Paris at the beginning of August. Thanks to our seeding, we were able to skip the Play-ins stage and advance directly to the Group Stage.

Placed in the eight-team Group B, we competed for one of four spots in the Playoffs. Our opening BO1 match was against Geekay Esports on Kafe Dostoyevsky. We built a significant lead during the match, but unfortunately failed to hold on to it. The game went all the way to overtime, where we narrowly fell short, losing 7:8.

The defeat sent us to the lower bracket and into a do-or-die match to keep our tournament run alive. In the following BO3, we faced Chinese side Weibo Gaming. They defeated us on Clubhouse and Nighthaven Labs, ending the series 0:2 and eliminating us from the tournament.

We ultimately finished the Esports World Cup in a tied 13th–16th place, taking home $25,000 in prize money.

For our players, competing at the EWC represents another invaluable experience and an opportunity to test themselves against the very best in the world. They will look to build on what they learned in Paris as they continue competing in major international tournaments throughout the season.
